Olympian and former 800m runner Jenny Meadows

South Yorkshire business Totally Runable has joined forces with former 800m athlete and Olympian Jenny Meadows as its first national ambassador.

Totally Runable works with South Yorkshire schools using running to build confidence in sport, exercise and life. After successfully working with over 1000 local girls and female school staff in 2017 the company has expanded its team and office base in Barnsley and is now working on launching its first national project, with a launch planned for Autumn 2018.

Olympian and retired athlete Jenny speaking this week said, “I’m really excited to be a part of the inspiring work Totally Runable are doing. I’ve seen first-hand the impact their courses and clubs have with girls. I know from my competing days, and the coaching and mentoring work I’ve done since retiring, how important confidence is in sport and in the rest of our lives. I’m really proud to be able to support an initiative like this which is making such a difference to girls and women in South Yorkshire.”

Meadows retired in 2016 after a successful athletics career. She first competed internationally in 2000, winning gold with the Great Britain 4x400m relay team at the World Junior Championships. Jenny went on to compete internationally for more than a decade, bringing home World and European Championships medals in the 800m and relay. She is also an Olympian, having competed for Team GB alongside Totally Runable Co-Founder Emily Freeman at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Speaking after announcing their first national ambassador this week Freeman said, “It’s fantastic to be able to announce that Jenny is supporting us in our mission to build girls’ confidence in sport. I’ve travelled all over the world with her and seen the passion she has for being the best she can be and I know how inspiring that will be to the girls we are working with. It will be great to have her on board with our upcoming projects and I can’t wait to start working with her!”

Totally Runable is looking for more primary schools in South Yorkshire to be a part of their Autumn projects inspiring girls and building confidence in and out of sport. Schools who are interested can find out more by emailing
